Each week we will aim to bring out a concise email that provides 4-5 key pieces of information addressing a specific issue in clinical therapeutics.
This week: Best wishes for the festive season
The Festive season provides us with a moment to pause to reflect upon the year’s events, progress made, achievements accomplished and areas of our work that provide us with the opportunity to consider how we might improve our services and do better in the future. As we come towards a period where many of us will take the opportunity to rest and recharge, we have an opportune moment to consider how fortunate we are to live in a country where we have a health system that truly caters to those who need it most.
We are all aware that older people living in residential care or indeed in the general community are often affected by challenges that are much more profound than those that face the rest of us. In some cases, an older person living in a residential care facility may, in fact, have no contact with friends or relatives at a time when others around them are enjoying the love and care of those who are special to them. It is often in those circumstances that we see the truly caring nature of those people who work in these facilities declare itself. Simply providing a few kind words, a well-chosen sentence or two with feeling, and a kind and comforting pat on the hand or a hug can mean a lot to those who otherwise have so little.
Although we in Australia now live in a modern secular society where not everybody will necessarily choose to celebrate the Christmas period, we can nevertheless mark the season with small acts of kindness and generosity – the sorts of gestures that demonstrate the best qualities of humankind.
The distribution of Ward MM Clinical Pearls will now go into a brief summer break, and will recommence on Tuesday, January 10th 2017.
Please accept our very best wishes for the season, our gratitude for the opportunity to have been able to work with you over this year, and our expression of genuine excitement for the opportunities that will follow in the year that is to come in 2017. Have a happy and safe holiday period, spending time with those who mean the most to you.
